Skardu district is located at the convergence of Indus and the Shyok River. It is the district with scenic beauties and  attractive destinations like Deosai Plateau, Lower Kachura Lake (Shangri-La Lake), Upper Kachura Lake,  Sadpara Lake, Organic Village,Bhudda Rock and Kharpocho Fort. These famous places possess a unique fragrance that could be felt across continents.Hence, huge number of tourists and Nature Lovers visits every year.


Shangri-La is also called as Lower Kachura Lake by Local People. Hilton describes Shangri-La as a mystical, harmonious valley. Indeed! tourists' dreamed destination. Upper Kachura Lake is the place of adventure with charms and calmness. There is the perfect location for swimming and parties.


Similarly, Deosai Plateau well known as "Land of Giants" is at a distance of 30 to 35 km from Skardu. In Balti Language it is named as ‘Ghbiarsa’ referring to summer’s Place because it is only accessible in summer while it remains inaccessible due to sever cold and snow. It is at quite high altitude. What makes it most interesting is its prodigious Sheosar lake and Bara Pani .Above all, there are varieties of flowers which are rarely found in the world. The Sadpara Lake links to Deosai and receives water from it. People wish to visit and camp in its cool nights.


Buddha Rock at Skardu depicts the origin and existence of cultural and ethnic diversities in the past.
Similarly, Kharpocho Fort is the astonishing wonder with its unique structure. Sher Ancchan founded this Fort during his rule. It manifests the past Life Style of Raja’s Families. Having climbed over this Fort, one can view the whole Skardu City right at his/her front.Tourists and Local People visit the Fort on foot.

The Majority of the people inhabiting here are Muslims following the sect of Sunni and Shia. The people are well known due to their hospitality. They do respect and have respect. They are honest, brave and hardworking people. There is peace and brotherhood among people. They share happiness and sorrows.

The prevailing season of Skardu is winter, dominating the valley eight to nine months a year. The rainfall is not so frequent and heavy. But for the purpose of irrigation of lands, water of Sadpara Lake is utilized.  The snow of steep peaks gets melted in summer to enhance water availability. Varieties of crops are cultivated here. Some of fruits like Cherry, Apple are popular here. The people adopt both the traditional and latest cultivation methods.
The summer is concise but quite enough hot. Sometime temperature goes up tremendously but become cool as well.


The literacy rate is really inspiring here. There are many schools and colleges that provide fundamental primary and secondary education outstandingly. The students are talented. They are getting glory in different universities due academic performance.
